For 6 years I had the pleasure of working with Gay at the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association (KCBIA). In her capacity as General Manager, Gay was instrumental in the growth and vibrancy of our organization by engaging new and existing members, administering major events and advocating in the best interests of our downtown. Her legacy with her work with our CAP Team, organizational rebranding and re-implementation of our Revitalization Tax Exemption will undoubtedly have lasting, positive effects on our city core.

As a person, I have known Gay to be an all around hard worker. She has integrity, grit and is one of the most dedicated people I know. When I was president of the KCBIA, I knew that if I gave her a task, she would get the job done.

I was on the inaugural board of directors for the KCBIA with Gay Pooler for two years and then served as President for several more years while Gay was the General Manager. Gay led our team in building a Business Improvement Association from the ground up. We created a multi committee level organization with a directional board. Gay ensured that the operations became streamlined through trouble shooting, creative problem solving and putting efficient systems in place.

She also spearheaded the creation of multiple award-winning programs and events including our Customer Care and Patrol (CAP) Team ambassador and safety patrol program. Through Gay’s focused leadership and dedication, we built a successful BIA that has thrived and done amazing work improving Downtown Kamloops. One of the things that makes Gay unique in her field is that she understands business. She has owned her own business and knows what it takes to manage a successful one. She understands the day to day struggles of entrepreneurs so was always able to communicate and engage with our members. I would not hesitate to recommend Gay Pooler as a Community Development consultant.

The BC Interior Community Foundation recently engaged Gay Pooler to assist us with a Strategic Plan. I am so impressed with Gay’s knowledge, attention to detail, and execution! During the work prior to the planning meeting, she was on point and very professional. We now have a Road Map with regard to our direction for the board as well as the Foundation as a whole. There’s an old saying that states knowledge is power. Someone told me a few years ago that this is incorrect. It’s in fact the implementation of knowledge that is power. I fully agree with this, and so we have hired Gay to help implement the finding of the Strategic Plan. I would hire Gay again and again for anything from a full strategic plan to having her come in and review processes in my business. Thank you so much Gay, it really was a pleasure.

Gay’s time management skills are commendable since she is very good at reining the group in and keeping them on task, which keeps the meeting moving and on schedule. Like a good counselor or psychiatrist, Gay asks the questions that elicit the "ah-ha" moment Her material is presented in an easy-to-understand format without a lot of jargon and superfluous words. Gay's work on governance has reset the boundaries, allowing our board to focus on the organization's vision, future direction, and evaluation.
